Is HRCT the same as a chest X-ray?+
No. HRCT provides cross-sectional, high-resolution lung detail and uses more radiation than a chest X-ray, so it should be clinically justified.
Does HRCT require contrast?+
Many HRCT lung examinations are performed without contrast. The prescription and clinical question determine the protocol.
How long does the scan take?+
Image acquisition is usually quick, although registration, positioning and breathing practice take additional time.
Can I eat before HRCT?+
Fasting is often unnecessary for a plain HRCT, but confirm your examination instructions while booking.
